Moon Trailer Leasing has had their identity stolen and used for scam after scam in the shipping container industry, so be aware of the red flags.

Watch Out! Don’t Fall for Shipping Container Scams

If you’ve ever been the target of a scam, then you might know that while many scams can be deceivingly accurate or realistic, there’s always one factor or another that you can identify as a consumer and protect yourself from losing money and setting plans back because of it. The shipping container industry has not escaped this scam-ridden fate, and those in the market for a shipping container should be more wary than ever when buying a shipping container.

Recently, Moon Trailer Leasing has been the victim of a string of identity thefts, where scammers take our name, information, and products to illegally scam consumers who are looking for a used shipping container to buy or rent. We’ve been doing our best to combat this surge in scams, but we’re committed to our customers and want to make sure that you’re equipped with knowledge that will keep you and your money safe.

Here’s how to spot a shipping container scam!

Red Flags for Shipping Container Scams

Knowing the red flags for a shipping container scam is important. When you’re buying a big-ticket item such as a Conex Box. Moon Trailer Leasing of Lexington and Moon Container Storage of Louisville are legitimate businesses verified by Google Businesses and Bing Businesses. You can be assured that the number listed on our website or those on our Google Search pages are the numbers that you should call with questions.

Red flags that you might encounter with a shipping container scam:

1. You’re contacted without having filled out a “Request a Quote” form or contacting us first via phone or social media messaging.

  • We cannot send unsolicited emails to contacts that have not willingly given us their information. If you’re contacted via phone or email by someone posing as Moon Trailer Leasing or Moon Container Storage without having contacted us first, the sale is likely a scam.

2. The seller’s contact information does not line up with our official information.

  • If a seller calls you from an unverified number or an email tries to lead you to a different website than the one below, then the sale is likely a scam. Be sure to click on any name that appears on the “From” line in emails, as scam emails will sometimes try to cover their burner email with a realistic name that shows up as a placeholder.

3. The price or discount is too good to be true and/or not listed on our official website.

  • We want our customers to know about any sales or discounts that we have going on and will make every effort to market that to those interested. However, if you receive a digital flyer, coupon, or discount email that lists a price much lower than market value or that isn’t marketed or mentioned anywhere on our website, you should double check with our staff about the promo.

4. The seller attempts to get you to make a deposit before viewing the unit in-person, or is aggressive in their sale.

  • Moon values our customers and aims for the highest satisfaction from them, so we always recommend coming to see the storage container you’re interested in first, meaning that while we will conduct a sale entirely online if necessary, it’s not our go-to or only sales method as a scammer might suggest. A scammer also might be aggressive in their sales tactic and try to pressure you into paying before viewing – which Moon will never do – and require a monetary deposit through an unofficial financial avenue such as:
    • Venmo
    •  Paypal
    • Direct account transfers
    •  CashApp
    • Zelle

5. The seller cannot answer questions that a legitimate employee should be able to answer.

  • If a caller or emailer lacks a general knowledge about shipping containers or about Moon, this is a red flag. Our employees are highly trained, so if you get a call from Moon, the person that you speak with will be able to answer any question you have or direct you to someone who has that knowledge!

Names that shipping containers are called

Other Names for a Shipping Container

If you’ve ever done any researching for new or used shipping containers, then perhaps you’ve caught sight of a few names that are different variations but all point to the same thing. We prefer the easy, self-explanatory version name – just the regular ol’ ‘shipping container’ – but do like to switch it up sometimes!

Some of the names might make you scratch your head and think, “Where did that come from?” but many have evolved just as any other slang does – in a specific location and with a specific definition in mind! Mobile offices in Louisville, KY for rent long term with stairs

What Are OSHA-Compliant Mobile Office Stairs?

Moon Trailer Leasing has always boasted mobile offices fit to your needs. Available in 20 and 30 foot lengths, our offices offer heat and AC, vinyl flooring, interior wood paneling, florescent lighting, sliding windows, and a lockable steel exterior door all on top of space and security with different configurations that range from all office-space to a 50/50 office and storage combo. And, depending on your needs, we also offer you your choice of a ground-level office or a mounted office.

Since we offer these attractive, easily-portable mobile offices, we also offer OSHA-compliant stairs with it! But what makes them OSHA-compliant?

OSHA has several different types of regulations that apply to stairways (both temporary and otherwise), stair-rails, handrails, and midrails. Here’s what they are:

For All Stairways Used During Construction

  • Stairways that will not be a permanent part of the building under construction must have landings at least 30 inches deep and 22 inches wide (76 x 56 cm) at every 12 feet (3.7 m) or less of vertical rise
  • Stairways must be installed at least 30 degrees —and no more than 50 degrees—from the horizontal
  • Variations in riser height or stair tread depth must not exceed 1/4 inch in any stairway system, including any foundation structure used as one or more treads of the stairs
  • Doors and gates opening directly onto a stairway must have a platform that extends at least 20 inches (51 cm) beyond the swing of the door or gate
  • Metal pan landings and metal pan treads must be secured in place before filling
  • Stairway parts must be free of dangerous projections such as protruding nails
  • Slippery conditions on stairways must be corrected
  • Workers must not use spiral stairways that will not be a permanent part of the structure

For Temporary Stairs

Except during construction of the stairway:

  • Do not use stairways with metal pan landings and treads if the treads and/or landings have not been filled in with concrete or other materials unless the pans of the stairs and/or landings are temporarily filled in with wood or other materials
  • All treads and landings must be replaced when worn below the top edge of the pan
  • Do not use skeleton metal frame structures and steps (where treads and/or landings will be installed later) unless the stairs are fitted with secured temporary treads and landings
  • Temporary treads must be made of wood or other solid material and installed the full width and depth of the stair

For Stair-Rails

  • Stairways with four or more risers or rising more than 30 inches (76 cm) in height— whichever is less—must be installed along each unprotected side or edge
  • When the top edge of a stair rail system also serves as a handrail, the height of the top edge must be no more than 37 inches (94 cm) nor less than 36 inches (91.5 cm) from the upper surface of the stair rail to the surface of the tread
  • Stair rails installed after March 15,1991, must be not less than 36 inches (91.5 cm) in height.
  • Top edges of stair rail systems used as handrails must not be more than 37 inches (94 cm) high nor less than 36 inches (91.5 cm) from the upper surface of the stair rail system to the surface of the tread
  • Stair rail systems and handrails must be surfaced to prevent injuries such as punctures or lacerations and to keep clothing from snagging
  • Ends of stair rail systems and handrails must be built to prevent dangerous projections, such as rails protruding beyond the end posts of the system
  • Unprotected sides and edges of stairway landings must have standard 42-inch (1.1 m) guardrail systems
  • Intermediate vertical members, such as balusters used as guardrails, must not be more than 19 inches (48 cm) apart
  • Other intermediate structural members, when used, must be installed so that no openings are more than 19 inches (48 cm) wide
  • Screens or mesh, when used, must extend from the top rail to the stairway step and along the opening between top rail supports

For Handrails

  • Handrails and top rails of the stair rail systems must be able to withstand, without failure, at least 200 pounds (890 n) of weight applied within 2 inches (5 cm) of the top edge in any downward or outward direction, at any point along the top edge
  • Handrails must not be more than 37 inches (94 cm) high nor less than 30 inches (76 cm) from the upper surface of the handrail to the surface of the tread
  • Handrails must provide an adequate handhold for employees to grasp to prevent falls
  • Temporary handrails must have a minimum clearance of 3 inches (8 cm) between the handrail and walls, stair rail systems and other objects
  • Stairways with four or more risers, or that rise more than 30 inches (76 cm) in height— whichever is less—must have at least one handrail
  • Winding or spiral stairways must have a handrail to prevent use of areas where the tread width is less than 6 inches (15 cm)

For Midrails

  • Midrails, screens, mesh, intermediate vertical members or equivalent intermediate structural members must be provided between the top rail and stairway steps to the stair rail system
  • When midrails are used, they must be located midway between the top of the stair rail system and the stairway steps
  • Employers must train all employees to recognize hazards related to ladders and stairways, and instruct them to minimize these hazards.
    • For example, employers must ensure that each employee is trained by a competent person in the following areas, as applicable:
      • Nature of fall hazards in the work area
      • Correct procedures for erecting, maintaining
and disassembling the fall protection systems
        to be used
      • Proper construction, use, placement and care
in handling of all stairways and ladders
      • Maximum intended load-carrying capacities of
        ladders used.
  • Employers must retrain each employee as necessary to maintain their understanding and knowledge on the safe use and construction of ladders and stairs

5 Amazing Storage Container Projects

5 Amazing Storage Container Projects

In the last few years, shipping/storage containers have been adapted for use in a number of building applications. Their durability, price, and availability make them a hot option for builders and buyers looking to take a step away from traditional materials and designs. Plus, because so many of these containers are built every year, building with them is an eco-friendly way to recycle the containers and keep them out of landfills. Below, we’ve put together a list of 5 amazing storage container projects to show you the potential of these containers.

Zieglerbuild house in Queensland, Australia

By now, many have heard of shipping container houses, but this home built by design and construction firm Zieglerbuild takes container builds to a new level. This 6000 square-foot home is made up of 31 individual containers. Wood floors, spacious interiors, and an in-ground saltwater pool aren’t features that come to mind when imagining living in a container home, but this astounding property offers them all and more. Visit Zieglerbuild’s gallery for some pictures of this beautiful home.

Modpools

Modpools is a company that turns shipping containers into custom built, modular swimming pools. Luxury may not be the first descriptor that comes to mind when imagining a shipping container pool, but with features like temperature control, smart lighting, and add-on hot tubs, these pools are top of the line.

Smoky Park Supper Club

The Smoky Park Supper Club holds the title for largest shipping container restaurant. Standing on the banks of the French Broad river in Asheville, North Carolina, the building is comprised of 19 storage containers. The supper club describes itself as “a gathering place for friends and family, locals and visitors, and everyone in between” and offers a diverse menu with some stellar locally-sourced options.

Vissershok primary school

The Vissershok Primary School is located in Durbanville, a valley on the outskirts of Capetown, South Africa. Positioned in a highly rural area, the school provides valuable education to an underprivileged community. Taking full advantage of its building budget, the school opted to construct a container classroom to maximize its learning space. With an attached playground, vegetable garden, and gathering area, this container classroom is a valuable asset to a school that is making a difference.

Cura Pods

Cura Pods are an open-source response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Cura-pods are basically shipping containers that are converted into temporary and mobile hospital rooms, designed for modular use. This design is especially effective for treating highly contagious diseases, since the pods double as sealed quarantine rooms. This design is very promising for use against future pandemics as well as anywhere a mobile and quick to deploy hospital is needed.

Pros and Cons of Renting or Buying Cargo Shipping Containers for Travel, Storage, International Purposes

Should I Rent or Buy A Shipping Container? 5 Important Questions To Consider

In the market for a shipping container? If you’re not sure what you’re looking for, it can be stressful! Shipping containers can be a major investment, so it’s important to consider your specific needs in the decision-making process.

Here at Moon Trailer Leasing, we talk customers through the logistics of buying and renting containers every day. We have decades of experience helping businesses and individuals make informed choices for their needs.

That’s why we’ve compiled some of the most important questions you should consider when buying or renting a container. By the time you read through these, you should have a much clearer idea of what you’re looking for! Let’s dive right in.

Question 1: What is it for?

The biggest question you’ll face is why am I purchasing a shipping container. Is your business in need of a durable shipping container for intercontinental voyages, for years on end? Are you looking to remodel a used shipping container into a tiny home, or repurpose it as a shed or pool? Do you want to customize the sides of the trailer with your business logo or some sort of design? If you want to permanently modify or maintain a shipping container for a significant amount of time, you should likely consider buying it outright.

On the other hand, if you’re using a shipping container for temporary storage, travel, an event, as an office, or for other related business endeavors, renting may be in your best interest. Asking yourself this question is a great way to get the ball rolling and begin to figure out what you’re looking for.

Question 2: How long will I need it?

The next question to consider is time-frame. Renting a shipping container is far more affordable if you plan on using it on a weekly or monthly basis. However, if you know you’ll consistently need a container for over a year, consider buying. The bottom line is: if your time-frame is up-in-the-air in any way, start with renting!

Some rental companies also provide on-site storage and delivery options for rentals, which makes the whole process a breeze. If you work with a leasing company like Moon, you won’t have to worry about finding a storage space, lugging the container around, or exposing it to the elements. We’re here to handle everything for you!

Question 3: Where will it travel?

As mentioned in Question 1, the types of trips that your shipping container will make is very important to consider. If you’re using the container for storage, renting with a company that can keep it safe for you is a great idea. If you’re thinking about taking the container around the world, or altering it in any major way, buying is better. Unfurnished containers can weigh anywhere between 5,000 and 8,000 pounds, often requiring semi-trucks using special trailers to be moved. That’s why some leasing companies offer transportation, delivery, and relocation services, which can make traveling with your container remarkably easier. At Moon, we offer all of this, as well as a preliminary Delivery Accessibility Evaluation to help assess your specific needs before bringing you your trailer.

Question 4: What size do I need?

Shipping containers are not one-size-fits-all. There are so many sizes on the market, designed for specific purposes and activities. Many people tend to overestimate and underestimate their sizing needs and purchase the wrong size container. We have both 20 ft and 40 ft containers available for purchase or rental, as well as 20 and 40 ft “Hi-cube” containers which are 1 foot taller than standard containers. If you’re stocking up a trailer for overseas or intercontinental travel, it’s not a good idea to have a lot of empty space for your items to roll around! We can evaluate your inventory and sizing needs to help you choose a trailer specific to your cargo needs.

Question 5: What quality of shipping container do I need?

Are you looking for a “brand new” trailer, or are you okay with a used one? Many used cargo containers for sale are deemed to be wind and watertight and have a long life ahead of them. Choosing to buy or rent a used trailer can be markedly more affordable, especially during shipping container shortages and economic downswings. At Moon, we rent and sell both new and used containers that are thoroughly-inspected to meet ISO requirements as well as our own rigorous quality standards. Make sure you’re working with a company you can trust, or you may find holes or signs of disrepair after it’s too late!

Trailer Leasing in Buechel Louisville Kentucky

Trailer Leasing in Buechel, Kentucky

Buechel is a neighborhood in Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky. It was incorporated into the city in 2003 and currently has a population of over 8,000. Located in the southern part of the city, Buechel offers parks, food, entertainment, and lots of residential desirability. Some neighborhoods around Buechel include Newburg, Fern Creek, Klondike, Bon Air, and Watterson. Let’s take a look at the history of Buechel, current attractions, and how Moon Trailer Leasing can serve your business in the area.

The History of Buechel

The history of Buechel dates back to 1791, with the arrival of George Hikes, a Revolutionary War veteran. Hikes traveled down the Ohio with his wife from Pennsylvania on a flatboat. He built a large farm as well as the first grist mill, saw mill, and wool-processing machine in the area. Currently, “Hikes’ Lane” is a road that runs through his former property, some of which still stands. At the time, the area was known as “Two-Mile Town” due to its location two miles south of the city of Louisville. The area continually grew, thanks to its location alongside the major state highway, Bardstown Road.

90 years later, in the 1870s, Buechel got its name from John Buechel, a Swiss immigrant and cabinet-maker who bought a tavern-hotel and post office on Bardstown Road. The tavern-hotel was known to be the “halfway” point between Louisville and Bardstown, a welcome respite for road-weary travelers. While Buechel’s property is long gone, the name has stuck.

Buechel Today

Today, Buechel is heavily developed and populated, in part due to the arrival of the GE plant in the 1950s and other nearby industrial operations. That being said, there are two significant green spaces in the 2.5 mile area: Buechel Park and Rest Haven Memorial Cemetery.

Buechel offers a diverse variety of cuisines. Top-rated restaurants and eateries include Jamaican Jerk Center, Pasha’s Mediterranean, Eden & Kissi, Kathmandu Kitchen and Bar, Borsalino Cafe and Deli, Track’s Bar and Grill, Arno Pizza, The Great Room, Brew and Sip Coffee Bar, My Cafe, and Wacky Willy’s Diner, located in Bill Collins Ford Lincoln of Louisville.

Popular attractions and venues in Buechel include Robben’s Roost Roller Skating Rink, Off The Rails Tasting Room and Wine Depot, Chocolate and Nut Kingdom, Progress Park Airstream Resort and Event Venue, the Southeast Family YMCA, and the West Buechel Community Center.

Trailer Leasing in Middletown, Kentucky

Did you know that Middletown is one of the earliest settlements in Kentucky? Founded in 1797, this home rule-class city features a winning combination of historical charm and commercial development.

Residents of Middletown can enjoy annual events, such as Concert in the Park, a Lenten fish fry, Veteran’s Day parade, and more. Those looking for event space can find ample enjoyment in Middletown’s Community Center, which occupies the site of the historic Middletown Methodist church. Its sanctuary features stained glass windows, pews, and a piano.

The History of Middletown, Kentucky

The name “Middletown” has a contentious backstory. Some historians believe that it was given this name due to its centrality between Louisville and Shelbyville, two larger cities. However, others think that “Middletown” can be credited to being between Westport and “Shippingport,” two early Ohio river port towns.

Originally a tract of land owned by Revolutionary War veteran Jacob Myers, Middletown’s central location made it quickly become an early trading post for farmers and travelers. It featured a tannery, cigar factory, millinery shop, general stores, a tailor, blacksmith, and more. Its location on a road between Lexington and Louisville made it a popular rest-stop for stage coaches and people on horseback. Early visitors could stay at pleasant amenities like the Middletown Inn.

In 1910, an interurban railroad was built through Middletown, connecting Louisville and Shelbyville. This caused a population boom in the area, as people were now able to commute to their jobs in each city along the railroad. However, following the widespread use of cars, the railroad was discontinued.

Today, Middletown has a historic district as well as several properties on the National Registry of Historic Places. There are also many retail shops and popular restaurants in the area. Visitors can stroll through Middletown’s well-preserved streets, experiencing the 200+ years of history for themselves.

Trailer Leasing in Middletown, Kentucky

Port shipping container shortage covid pandemic

Global Shipping Container Shortage: Everything You Need to Know

Did you know that there’s an international shortage of shipping containers? While this may not seem like such a big deal, it has actually affected every aspect of our lives!

Shipping containers are at the heart of the global economy, transporting billions of dollars’ worth of consumer goods, apparel, materials, manufacturing parts, and countless other products between countries and continents every day. Normally, when even one aspect of the supply chain is waylaid, the consequences are substantial. So, when there is a global pandemic, the results are disastrous!

How The Container Shortage Happened

In the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, lockdowns and government-imposed limits halted the production of many goods, reducing the intricate flow of exports and imports between nations. Consumer demand also plummeted, as people stopped going out to shop and stimulate the economy. This all caused less shipping containers and cargo ships to be necessary. So, the unneeded containers were sent to inland depots and ports, stacked up by the thousands.

Months later, as restrictions began to lift, the need for shipping containers began to increase in some places more than others. Countries with less restrictions needed more shipping containers, while countries with tight lockdowns needed few. This disparity caused an imbalance of the distribution of shipping containers—that is to say, they’re all in the wrong spots.

Some ports are overwhelmed and crowded with containers, struggling to load and unload fast enough. In Los Angeles, there was a reported “parking lot” of cargo ships waiting to unload for weeks. In China, a shut-down port caused the delay of over 350,000 containers for two months. Depending on the product, shipping delays can be anywhere from days to months. It’s a domino effect: delays stack on delays, as backlog increases, demand increases, and prices spike. With all this compounding disarray, there’s no end in sight; the global shipping container shortage is likely to last into 2022.

How Does This Affect Us?

As consumers, we aren’t directly involved in the day-to-day affairs of international shipping. However, we will certainly bear some of the economic strain of the crisis. Consumer goods, from cereal to t-shirts, are facing inflated prices. Companies cannot afford to pay for the growing expenses of shipping containers, and are forced to place some of the cost on us. While price increases for many products are negligible, they add up.

In turn, there’s growing speculation around the impact on the upcoming holiday season. As CEO of the large marine consulting firm Sea Intelligence ApS Alan Murphy stated, “It’s a crisis of excessively high demand and a severe shortage of supply of vessel space and empty containers… don’t be surprised if your Christmas shopping list comes out short.” Maybe it’s time to begin your holiday shopping, right now!
