Moon Trailer Leasing offers leased and for sale storage containers in Shively, KY.

Trailer Leasing in Shively, KY

Shively, KY has a long history with the Louisville area as a home rule-class city in Jefferson County under the metro government, and Moon Trailer Leasing is proud to serve the area for their trailer leasing and sales needs! While the city has somewhat of a rocky past, Shively is undergoing several projects by the local and metro governments as well as the community that lives there to make it part of Kentucky’s natural charm.

A Brief History of Shively

Shively has been around practically since Louisville was founded in 1778, starting out as a small farming community whose landowners included the Shively family that the city is named after. The area once included a mill and tavern that were known as the “Shively Precinct” until 1816, when the land was donated to a church – the modern day Parkview Methodist.

In 1831, a stagecoach stop was added to the area, followed by the Elizabethtown and Paducah Railroad in the 1870s. After the Civil War, the Shively area became a refuge for German immigrants, who erected St. Helen’s Catholic Church in 1897, which was what the area was briefly known as until the Post Office couldn’t adopt the name due tot he existence of another St. Helen’s in Lee County, KY. This church and school was torn down in 2014.

The era of Prohibition and the Great Depression saw relative historic success for Shively, as the Brown-Forman distillery – who manufactures several popular brands of alcohol like Old Forester, Jack Daniels, Woodford Reserve, Finlandia, and now-sold off Early Times – managed to obtain one of the few permits to make medicinal alcohol during Prohibition, boosting the economy of the city while others’ fell. At the end of Prohibition, 8 distilleries opened in Shively, and Louisville attempted and failed to annex and tax those distilleries until they convinced the residents to incorporate separately in May of 1938. The distilleries left Shively with a $20 million revenue stream that kept it funded into the 50s and 60s, when it became the fastest-growing city in Kentucky.

The following era saw the gradual decline in the environment, brought on by the distilleries closing, the population falling, and racism taking ahold of the city as white flight segregated the area and saw the Wade Incident of 1954. Since then, the black population has increased to make up approximately 30% of the total population, but the city was again hit with scandal in the 80s, when the police chief admitted to taking bribes that would allow prostitution in the area, which earned it the nickname “Lively Shively.”

Today, Shively is a stop in the Kentucky Bourbon Trail with the Brown-Forman Distillery, a Bulleit Bourbon tourist attraction, and the Michter’s Distillery and is slowly improving with the help of various public works projects and businesses moving into the area. The city of Shively includes a total of 4.6 square miles, 0.01 square miles of it water. According to the 2020 census, the population has grown by 2.4% from 2010 to 15,636 people.

What Are OSHA-Compliant Mobile Office Stairs?

Moon Trailer Leasing has always boasted mobile offices fit to your needs. Available in 20 and 30 foot lengths, our offices offer heat and AC, vinyl flooring, interior wood paneling, florescent lighting, sliding windows, and a lockable steel exterior door all on top of space and security with different configurations that range from all office-space to a 50/50 office and storage combo. And, depending on your needs, we also offer you your choice of a ground-level office or a mounted office.

Since we offer these attractive, easily-portable mobile offices, we also offer OSHA-compliant stairs with it! But what makes them OSHA-compliant?

OSHA has several different types of regulations that apply to stairways (both temporary and otherwise), stair-rails, handrails, and midrails. Here’s what they are:

For All Stairways Used During Construction

  • Stairways that will not be a permanent part of the building under construction must have landings at least 30 inches deep and 22 inches wide (76 x 56 cm) at every 12 feet (3.7 m) or less of vertical rise
  • Stairways must be installed at least 30 degrees —and no more than 50 degrees—from the horizontal
  • Variations in riser height or stair tread depth must not exceed 1/4 inch in any stairway system, including any foundation structure used as one or more treads of the stairs
  • Doors and gates opening directly onto a stairway must have a platform that extends at least 20 inches (51 cm) beyond the swing of the door or gate
  • Metal pan landings and metal pan treads must be secured in place before filling
  • Stairway parts must be free of dangerous projections such as protruding nails
  • Slippery conditions on stairways must be corrected
  • Workers must not use spiral stairways that will not be a permanent part of the structure

For Temporary Stairs

Except during construction of the stairway:

  • Do not use stairways with metal pan landings and treads if the treads and/or landings have not been filled in with concrete or other materials unless the pans of the stairs and/or landings are temporarily filled in with wood or other materials
  • All treads and landings must be replaced when worn below the top edge of the pan
  • Do not use skeleton metal frame structures and steps (where treads and/or landings will be installed later) unless the stairs are fitted with secured temporary treads and landings
  • Temporary treads must be made of wood or other solid material and installed the full width and depth of the stair

For Stair-Rails

  • Stairways with four or more risers or rising more than 30 inches (76 cm) in height— whichever is less—must be installed along each unprotected side or edge
  • When the top edge of a stair rail system also serves as a handrail, the height of the top edge must be no more than 37 inches (94 cm) nor less than 36 inches (91.5 cm) from the upper surface of the stair rail to the surface of the tread
  • Stair rails installed after March 15,1991, must be not less than 36 inches (91.5 cm) in height.
  • Top edges of stair rail systems used as handrails must not be more than 37 inches (94 cm) high nor less than 36 inches (91.5 cm) from the upper surface of the stair rail system to the surface of the tread
  • Stair rail systems and handrails must be surfaced to prevent injuries such as punctures or lacerations and to keep clothing from snagging
  • Ends of stair rail systems and handrails must be built to prevent dangerous projections, such as rails protruding beyond the end posts of the system
  • Unprotected sides and edges of stairway landings must have standard 42-inch (1.1 m) guardrail systems
  • Intermediate vertical members, such as balusters used as guardrails, must not be more than 19 inches (48 cm) apart
  • Other intermediate structural members, when used, must be installed so that no openings are more than 19 inches (48 cm) wide
  • Screens or mesh, when used, must extend from the top rail to the stairway step and along the opening between top rail supports

For Handrails

  • Handrails and top rails of the stair rail systems must be able to withstand, without failure, at least 200 pounds (890 n) of weight applied within 2 inches (5 cm) of the top edge in any downward or outward direction, at any point along the top edge
  • Handrails must not be more than 37 inches (94 cm) high nor less than 30 inches (76 cm) from the upper surface of the handrail to the surface of the tread
  • Handrails must provide an adequate handhold for employees to grasp to prevent falls
  • Temporary handrails must have a minimum clearance of 3 inches (8 cm) between the handrail and walls, stair rail systems and other objects
  • Stairways with four or more risers, or that rise more than 30 inches (76 cm) in height— whichever is less—must have at least one handrail
  • Winding or spiral stairways must have a handrail to prevent use of areas where the tread width is less than 6 inches (15 cm)

For Midrails

  • Midrails, screens, mesh, intermediate vertical members or equivalent intermediate structural members must be provided between the top rail and stairway steps to the stair rail system
  • When midrails are used, they must be located midway between the top of the stair rail system and the stairway steps
  • Employers must train all employees to recognize hazards related to ladders and stairways, and instruct them to minimize these hazards.
    • For example, employers must ensure that each employee is trained by a competent person in the following areas, as applicable:
      • Nature of fall hazards in the work area
      • Correct procedures for erecting, maintaining
and disassembling the fall protection systems
        to be used
      • Proper construction, use, placement and care
in handling of all stairways and ladders
      • Maximum intended load-carrying capacities of
        ladders used.
  • Employers must retrain each employee as necessary to maintain their understanding and knowledge on the safe use and construction of ladders and stairs

What's the difference between ground level offices and mobile offices?

Ground Level Offices vs Office Trailers: What’s the Difference?

If you know about our mobile office for rent services, then you might be aware that we offer two different types office: ground level offices and mobile offices. Both of these container-based offices are wonderful additions to worksites, but you might be wondering – what’s the difference?

While the two are comparable in many ways, there are a few factors that distinguish one from the other.

1. Set-Up and Placement

The most obvious difference is that mobile offices are mounted on a chassis and wheels and then pulled by a trailer to the job site, where is sits in a locked position on a cinderblock mount. They include OSHA-compliant stairs, as well, as opposed to the ground level offices, which have no need.

Ground level offices are completes flat, made out of repurposed shipping containers, and are placed on the jobsite via a crane after being transported.

2. Size Availability

Due to the mobile trailer option not being made from a shipping container, there are differing sizes in what stock we have to offer.

Mobile Offices – 20 ft. and 30 ft.

Ground Level Offices – 20 ft. and 40 ft.

Our ground level offices are offered in the same dimensions as our shipping containers for rent or for sale, save for the Hi-Cube option, which is unique to the non-office containers.

3. Storage Options

Due to the heightened security that a shipping container affords, we offer a variety of different ground level configurations to fit your needs. One of those options is a container office that is made up of  50% storage and 50% office, with an interior wall to separate the spaces.

With the space constraints of the mobile offices, we unfortunately cannot provide that extra storage space at this moment in time, but there is still plenty of space in the office area to enjoy!

4. Long-Term Cost

Due to the upkeep of the chassis and wheels, usually the mobile offices have a few costs down the road that ground level offices can avoid, depending on how often the office moves sites. Since ground level offices are generally a little more expensive to move with the equipment required, they’re better as a long-term, yet still temporary office solution for one site, whereas the mobile office is convenient for companies that need a more portable option.

What Doesn’t Change?

While there are a few things that change between the two office options, there are plenty of things that are the same across the board! And we want to say, we think that they’re the most important details in the end, because Moon want you to have the best portable office around!

1. Terrain

Both offices are compatible with multiple kinds of terrain – the only requirement that they need are a flat surface to rest on for stability. If the site is very rural or natural, then it might be best to keep in mind the transportation methods of each office! The mobile office needs a truck to pull it as well as a jack to lift it for chassis care , but the ground level office are delivered on a tilt bed trailer or roll-back truck, so there could be additional equipment needed – such as forklifts, jacks, or cranes – to place it in the right location.

2. Quality

One thing that never changes at Moon is the quality of our products, our services, and our customer appreciation. We provide only the best shipping container-based offices, regardless if it’s an actual repurposed shipping container ground level office or the portable office. Our offices come with water and weatherproof exteriors, and our customer service is second to none! The durability and versatility of mobile offices are made even better by the quality of the construction, and that’s what we aim to give.

3. Accommodations

While there is some variation between every unit, mobile and ground level offices alike, we make sure to keep our customer’s comfort and safety in mind. All portable offices have:

  • Insulated walls, ceilings, and floors
  • Vinyl flooring
  • Interior wood paneling
  • Florescent lighting
  • Electric heating
  • Electric ac unit
  • Sliding windows
  • A lockable steel exterior door

With AC for your hotter months and heat for the colder ones, we make sure to include these kinds of amenities in all our portable offices. And, with the included security of the thick, steel, shipping container walls, our ground level offices not only provide comfort, but safety, as well.

4. Moon’s Satisfaction Guarantee

Finally, we’ll never change the satisfaction guarantee that Moon operates on. We value our customers, and are greatly invested in their experience and satisfaction with our service, so we remain as proactive as possible with our clients. Along with our mobile offices, we offer portable restrooms and showers, dumpsters, and refrigerated container storage so that you and your job site have everything you need to be successful.

If you are looking for mobile office rentals or purchasing options in the Kentucky or Southern Indiana, considering giving Moon Trailer Leasing a call. Our experienced team has decades of experience serving the needs of customers throughout Louisville and Lexington, Kentucky and in Clarksville, Jeffersonville, and New Albany, Indiana as well. Disaster affected area

How Mobile Offices are Used in Disaster Relief Efforts

Mobile offices can be a practical, cost effective option for those looking for a temporary office space. These offices are typically constructed inside of a standard trailer, so that they can be easily hauled and deployed. Although it may not be the first use case that comes to mind, these qualities make mobile offices perfect for disaster affected areas. In these areas, officials and volunteers need fast and effective solutions in order to effectively provide relief. Keep reading to learn more about how mobile offices and similar mobile buildings are used in disaster relief efforts.

Construction

Construction job sites are perhaps the most common places to find mobile office trailers. These job sites need a temporary base of operations, and the portability and price of office trailers make them a very attractive option. Trucks can deliver the offices directly to the job site and pick them up as soon as the job is completed, making the whole process very efficient and easy.

In disaster affected areas, there is no shortage of construction to be done. Floods, earthquakes, tornadoes, and similar events can leave many homes, schools, and businesses destroyed. Eventually, affected communities will need to rebuild, meaning wide scale construction. These construction sites will inevitably need office spaces, and as mentioned before, portable office trailers are a popular option. Click here to read about local construction efforts in Bowling Green as the area struggles to recover from devastating tornadoes earlier this year.

Natural Disaster Control Centers

It takes a lot of work to recover from a natural disaster. There are resources to allocate, volunteers to direct, and difficult, time sensitive cleanup jobs to hire out. All this work makes an office, or many offices, a necessity for disaster relief efforts, and since many office buildings may have already been destroyed, an alternative is required. This is where portable office trailers come in. These trailers can be delivered to the affected area and set up quickly, so no time is wasted.

Schools

Schools can be easily forgotten about in the wake of a natural disaster. With so much damage done to homes and personal property, many don’t have time to consider the effect these events can have on education. Destroyed classrooms and school buildings can take months to clear and rebuild, sidetracking entire school years. Luckily, schools don’t need to wait for this lengthy process of rebuilding to get back to class. With the help of portable classroom and office trailers, schools can be back in session very quickly after a natural disaster. This is important not only for the continuation of student’s education, but as a way to restore a degree of normalcy to children’s lives.

Options for Portable Offices – 5 Important Things To Consider

Portable offices are typically thought of as offices that are movable and comparatively easier to set up and take down in shorter stints of time. Some types of portable office rentals are even easily transported from one location to another, which makes these great options if you are in a situation where you may need to rent a portable office space for an extended period of time, but to also need to be able to move it to various locations.

When it comes to portable offices, there are a variety of options, depending on your unique needs, location, and budget.

Many event planners, construction site managers, builders, and companies undergoing renovations and/or staffing and building changes, have a need for some type of portable office space at some point in time. Portable offices can provide a quick and easy solution for fast expansion or unexpected changes, and they are often used as onsite classrooms, training facilities, staffing overflow space, storage units, medical treatment buildings, and more.

If you are considering renting a portable office and exploring your options, there are some things you should know in order to make a good decision based on your needs.

Follow along for some important things you should think about when you are considering renting a mobile office unit.

5 Things To Consider While Looking For Portable Office Rental

1. What size do you need?

Portable offices vary in considerably in terms of their dimensions. The most common units vary from 20 feet to 40 feet in size, and include 20-, 30- and 40-foot units.

2. How portable do you need your mobile office to be?

While the word “portable” suggests that every portable office is movable in some way, some units are especially portable because they are built on wheels. If you need a portable office that is built on wheels, this may impact the size of the unit. Typically portable office trailers on wheels are available as 20 or 30 foot units.

3. What type of layout do you need in your portable office rental unit?

While many portable offices look similar on the outside, the types of layouts inside vary significantly based on the unique needs of those using the space. For example, if you are a school using a portable office as a classroom you may will need a layout that is conducive to the types of seating and learning tools and style you will use in the space. This may include a very open design. Comparatively if you are using a mobile office as a medical treatment center, your portable office may need to feature a cluster of smaller spaces that offer privacy.

4. What type of flooring, lighting, heating, electrical outlets, air conditioning, and security are you seeking?

While every portable office rental company is not the same, when you rent a portable office from Moon Trailer Leasing in Louisville and Lexington Kentucky, you can expect certain standard features to all of our units. All of our portable office trailers have walls, ceilings and floors that are insulated. Our mobile offices also have vinyl flooring, interior wood paneling, florescent lighting, electric heating and air conditioning and windows that open, and secure steel exterior doors that lock.

5. What type of accessibility are you seeking for your portable office?

Perhaps one of the biggest ways that portable offices vary is in whether or not they are designed at ground level or put together with stairs. Portable offices with stairs should always include OSHA approved steps for easier access. Portable offices that are built at ground level do not require any stairs for entry. Larger 40-foot office units are often delivered to your site on a tilt bed trailer. This may be another consideration, depending on the location.
